We were in Sri Lanka for one week. Our guide and driver, Terrence, was brilliant. He was very knowledgeable and had great recommendations for activities (such as Village Safari in Habarana, Madu River Safari, various restaurants, massage, woodcarving workshop, etc.) which we weren't aware and these made our trip even better than we had anticipated. He greeted us with a brand new air-conditioned minibus which was very well looked after and very comfortable. Terrence was a great driver and it was obvious that he took great pride in his vehicle. There was always a supply of bottled water on board. As we had a packed itinerary, we had a number of early morning starts and late nights yet Terrence was always there for us and willing to accommodate our needs. All in all, Terrence helped make our holiday as memorable as it was and we would strongly recommend him ????

Rebecca and Dirk WOW what a time we have had in Sri Lanka 12 days of pure bliss, everything organised nothing for us to worry about, hotels perfect, food and tours fantastic. Our driver Ethen was a pure gentleman and a wonderful young man, was always looking out for us and also had some little surprises for us a long the way - we could not speak highly enough of OUR Ethen the best driver in Sri Lanka! Could not recommend Ceylon escapes high enough.

We hired Terrence to drive us for just under a week. We found him to be a great driver, he is a very nice man who speaks good English and has great knowledge of his country. He is very polite and made lots of suggestions, but actually we didn't want to do too much and I think we may have disappointed him a little! We were very happy to do what we did, a little sight seeing and lots of time by the beach. It was really helpful having Terrence as we didn't live some of the accommodation we booked and he helped us to find something else. He was also really helpful at the train station, taking control and getting us on the train (which we had booked) and he was there with a smiley fact to meet us in Ella! We recommend Terrence as a very good driver, who will drive you safely and take where you want to go.

Arrival: We were met by our charming and efficient driver/guide, Tissa, and taken to the Wallawwa Hotel. Too exhausted to really notice how nice the hotel was. The drive to Sigirya was uneventful except for the chaotic traffic. We were told that there are 1 million tuk-tuks in Sri Lanka and 3 million motor cycles. They all seem to want to overtake or get in the way. Fortunately, our driver was an expert. We were persuaded by Tissa to visit the Kaudulla National Park that afternoon and were rewarded with a close-up view of over a hundred elephants who came out of the forest each evening to feed and cool down in the streams. A remarkable experience and one that was quite unexpected. It was noted later that the hotel could organise such a trip but at twice the cost. Polonnararuwa is extraordinary with a wealth of temples and buildings going back to 500 years BC. They were most impressive and the finale of the standing and reclining Buddha was the best of the lot. There is possibly too much of a history lesson about the place but interesting all the same. On the way to Polonnararuwa Tissa took us to a local family restaurant for an excellent meal in authentic surroundings. He was good at knowing where to go and next day persuaded us to take the ‘village experience’. Sounds touristy but was delightful. It included a ride in a bullock cart, a trip on one of the many man made lakes, a visit to a farm followed by a meal cooked for us in a local kitchen. Good fun and a view of the local way of life. The climb to the top of Sigirya is worth the effort and it is quite an effort. Sadly the view was a bit obscured by cloud on the day we climbed. The setting for the Water Garden Hotel is spectacular and the room was superb. The service was good and the food pretty good. Sadly the air conditioning went off in the middle of the night in our room and I could not get it started again. When I complained, we were slightly brushed off with the excuse that it sometimes happens if there is a power cut in the night. It happened each night! Later, by chance we met some Americans who were staying there at the same time and they had exactly the same experience and the same excuse. On the way to Kandy we stopped at the caves at Dambulla. Most impressive paintings but too many people on the day we were there. Also, the public toilets were the worst that we came across. Normally they are spotless but these were disgusting. The traffic in Kandy is more chaotic and time consuming than anywhere else we had been. Some French people who were staying at hotel 15 kilometres out of Kandy took one and a half hours to get to their hotel. Fortunately, our driver was able to get us to and from Kandy House Hotel without too much difficulty. The visit to the botanical garden was well worth while and we avoided the crowds at the temple of the tooth by going later in the afternoon. Tissa proposed that we should go to the dance display and we reluctantly agreed. Once again he was right and it was an amazing and athletic display followed by genuine fire walkers. Most impressive. Kandy House Hotel was very comfortable and our room was excellent. The food was quite expensive, by Sri Lankan standards, and when the bill came there was 10% service and 19% tax added. This was the only place where this happened on our whole trip. The train ride from Kandy to Hoputale was very interesting but takes about six hours. It seemed to us that there is a black market in tickets and your guide has to be plugged into the circuit in order to get them. I noticed that our tickets had been issued about a month before. The train consists of one first class carriage with air-conditioning, so no open windows, one second class carriage, then a number of third class carriages with unreserved seats which were packed solidly with locals. Finally there were two carriages of third class with reserved seating only. This was where we were and it was fabulous (once the twenty Chinese got off). One could open the door and sit with your feet out and enjoy the fantastic views. These were really, really spectacular. The Thotalagala Bungalow was our favourite. There was communal dining at one big table and the hostess Claire was adept at getting the seating plan right and the staff were the most friendly and helpful of our whole trip. Our room were big and comfortable with a bath, that pleased me. We enjoyed the walk to Lipton Seat and the visit to the tea factory where the equipment does not appear to have been changed since it was built. The little hotel dog led us around the local walks. Ella is a backpackers town and is fun in its own way. Once again, our guide knew what to do and took us on a walk through the forest to the nine arch bridge timing our arrival to perfection as a train appeared and crossed the bridge. This is local attraction as there was quite a crowd of locals who had come to see the spectacle! The drive to Galle was a bit tedious and involved one visit to the ‘bush toilet’. Sadly, we said goodbye to Tissa. He was an exceptional guide and looked after us in every possible way. The importance of a good guide cannot be stressed too much. He will know the right times to go to each place and be able to work the system to your advantage. For instance we never had to queue to collect our shoes after visiting a temple as he knew the man in charge who kept them to one side. The Katanda Kanda Hotel was delightful and has a sister hotel on the sea that is well worth a visit. The highlight of our trip to Galle was arranged between our guide and the guide for our American friends. A local guide collected us from the hotel and took us to the market. There all the different fruits and vegetables were explained to us before we were taken to his private house where his wife cooked a fabulous meal of twelve or more dishes. All the different herbs, spices and vegetables were explained and cooked before us. It was the best meal of the holiday. Overall our holiday was a great success. There were no hiccups and as I have said our guide was excellent. Sri Lanka is a fascinating country and the people are delightful. Their first reaction is to smile and this is such a wonderful contrast to many countries. This precis of our trip has mentioned one or two failures but they did nothing to dampen our enthusiasm for the country and the enjoyment of our holiday.

The van was very comfortable for our family of 5 adults, and having such an experienced driver as Hasantha was fantastic. In organising the trip the responses from Dirk were always prompt and clear, and contained suggested improvements. We had a great holiday - thanks for everything.

We had the most marvellous holiday in Sri Lanka, thanks in no small part to Ceylon Escapes, and of course our wonderful driver and guide, Saminda. From the moment he picked us up from the airport in the nice big "van", to accommodate my husband's long legs, nothing was too much trouble for him. Always bottles of water and snacks to hand, interesting bits of information on the places we were visiting, good spots for a cup of tea or lunch, and a brilliant technique for quickly getting entry tickets for us. With perfect timing, we arrived in Kandy on New Year's Eve just as the sun set over the lake, and then saw the temple. In Anawatapura we contrived to see the museum, the whole vast site and most of the Stupas, and finally arrive at the most important as the sun set, and a long train of pilgrims led by a band were coming with flowers and offerings. On our family history hunt, he drove miles cross-country from Ella to the tea estate at Poonagalla where my sister-in-law grew up, and then helped us in Colombo tracking down the house on Gregory's road where my father lived in the 1940's. As I believe you know, I very unluckily fell and dislocated my elbow on Christmas Day, and though I was swiftly sorted out by the amazing hospital and surgeon in Galle, to start with it was a bit tricky with only one arm! However, Saminda went out of his way to ensure that he always parked in an easy place for me, and was ready with a hand to help me out of the car. Thank you so much, and I will definitely be recommending Ceylon Escapes to anyone wanting to visit Sri Lanka.

My wife and I spent a week-long holiday in Sri Lanka during 23-31 Dec 2017 along with our sister-in-law and two nieces from Chennai. It turned out to be one of the most memorable family vacation for all of us, which is largely due to the excellent hospitality, warmth and care extended to all of us by your chauffeur and guide, Gunathilaka. Guna picked us up from the airport on 23 Dec 2017 and we moved in his very comfortable van to our first hotel in Sigiriya. We then moved to our Kandy hotel, before finally being dropped off at our last hotel in Colombo on 29 Dec 2017. We covered several interesting places, such as Sigiriya, Polonaruwa, Minneriya National Park Safari, Dumbulla Cave temple, Kandy tooth relic temple, Nuwara Eliya, Sita Amman Temple, Tea Estate and Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage. The natural beauty of Sri Lanka with greenery all around as we travelled leaves an ever-lasting impression in our minds. With Guna's input, we could discuss and modify our itineraries with ease and he was always willing to accommodate our needs and "make them happen". Guna was excellent in his planning for the daily excursions, which made our experience worry-free and enjoyable. Thank you Guna! Our experience with CeylonEscapes has been truly memorable, right from the early planning stages to our travel around Sri Lanka. Great Service - Keep it up! We would highly recommend CeylonEscapes to anyone planning a vacation in Sri Lanka.

He was courteous and always looking out for us - even carrying emergency medicines in the car. We found Ceylonescapes to be excellent to deal with and would highly recommend them. Prasad took us anywhere we wanted, he even recommended and brought us some not touristy places, and told us a lot of stories about the beautiful places in Sri Lanka. We booked the car service for 5 days, but we extended it to 10 days! Prasad was such a nice and helpful man, one of the reasons we extended! The car was always very clean, and he provided us with a new bottle of water every morning. We would really recommend Ceylon escapes! And thank you so much Prasad!! Together with our kids we experienced a wonderful time in Sri Lanka. We decided to use the experience of Ceylonescapes to travel trough this beautiful country. Before traveling we have read about the history and most interesting sites. When we arrived at the international airport Anthony was waiting for us with his van, a perfect vehicle with climate control and sufficient space for 7 persons. Our expectations were a rather chaotic traffic with small roads and lots of tuk tuk and other transportation vehicles. Anthony was more than experienced to transport us trough Sri Lanka. Not only that, Anthony was a very pleasant, friendly and experienced guide. Anthony is also very enthusiastic about his country and wants to enjoy Sri Lanka on its best. He arranged safari with locals, excursions at historic places, perfect diners at local sites and massages. Even more important, he was open to fulfilling our wishes, not only ours but also of our kids aging between 16 and 22. In other words, he fits more than 100% for his job. We wish him all the best for the future and recommend him strongly !!

His vehicle was spotlessly clean, air-conditioned and comfortable, and we learned so much from him about Sri Lanka and it's friendly, smiling people. He knew the answer to all our questions, and worked out very quickly what would appeal to us, and we did many things which helped give us an insight in the 'real' Sri Lanka. He always maintained a professional air, but was generous with his patience, kindness and enthusiasm, and we gained much enjoyment from everything he showed us, and embraced many new experiences. Nothing was ever 'too much trouble' for him, even though he must have done much of it hundreds of times before. We are sure that we got much more out of our holiday experience because of Seelan, and I will recommend both him and Ceylon Escapes to my friends and colleagues. We had an enormously enjoyable holiday in Sri Lanka with our two sons. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country and very suited for a family holiday. But what made our holiday truly wonderful and relaxed was having William as our guide - chauffeur. It made the logistics a lot easier, and added a tremendous amount to the journey. William is very knowledgeable about his own county and his English is flawless. With the wisdom of a seasoned storyteller, he could explain many things about Sri Lanka in a meaningful and understandable way. As a host he was always considerate with an approach that both focused on our wishes whilst still anticipating our needs. His overseas experience working abroad meant that he related to foreigners well, allowing him to stay flexible and adaptable. William is very welcoming and service oriented. His vehicle was always spotless and he thoughtfully arranged for some fruits for us to eat during long journeys, such as rambutan, banana´s, avocado´s. He has an extensive network, and is familiar with all the sights across the country, including the less obvious ones. So there was no end to the ideas about what activities to do or places to visit. Highly recommended! Top modern, clean cars and super selected driver! We just stayed for 2 weeks with Ceylon Escapes in Sri Lanka. The fact that it was not our first trip to Sri Lanka, we thought at first, us to rent a car and completely to travel on their own island. The reason was that we would rather have on our travels among us and, unfortunately, in other holidays have often had bad experiences with unpleasant, unfortunately very insecure traveling riders and wanted to avoid this at the same two weeks absolutely. We also love to just be independent: to decide Even when you drive off, what roads you drive, where and how long you stop traveling, ... In short, we wanted so be sure to rent a car. This we had already booked (with the clause, to be able to cancel it for free) when we read what one expects an accident as a stranger to Sri Lanka. There was talk of high penalties, travel ban, Prison, Trial, ... We were torn, what we should do and started but the search for a driver who meets our requirements and also a vehicle has, which in about our booked car hire equivalent. Here we had booked ie specifically an SUV, as these sections particularly well in crash tests and has also by the higher seats a better driving experience. Unfortunately we noticed that most drivers only have a normal car or a small bus / van that was not an option for us. After a long search we finally found the perfect solution: The Agency "Ceylon Escapes", which has a large selection top modern, well-maintained vehicles and extra well-trained drivers. The choice among these top riders fell heavily, but we opted for Sarath, which was also a very good decision. We put great stock to obtain a patient, safe driving, sympathetic driver who is also Non smoking. All our requests were taken into account when the driver of pages of the agency selection. Especially I would like here to thank Alex who answered detailed and accurate in all our email inquiries. Even the service in advance via email was extremely good - very untypical of Sri Lanka in excellent English. Until the arrival at the airport we knew Sarath only from a photo on the website of ceylonescapes and were naturally very excited when we ran towards the many strange faces on leaving the airport. Only one of them had us long recognized before we had seen him just the eye. Our Sarath, who welcomed us with a friendly, warm smile in his bright and beautiful Sri Lanka Welcome. In the car - a Chevrolet Captiva - waited a first welcome gift for my family - as we see, a very, very nice gesture by Sarath. We made our way to the south, to the beaches of Bentota, Unawatuna, Weligama ... After a few minutes realized that Sarath has the prudent and defensive driving fully in blood and not, like other drivers, just so does when he would drive safely. And that in a class vehicle. All the way, even on the high-priced highway, we saw only very rarely a car, what ever could keep up with our wonderful Chevrolet Captiva. A great driving experience, in terms of size very pleasant because you have a lot of space, very clean and fairly new - or in one sentence: With the best car, which you can get to Sri Lanka. According to Sarath all cars of Ceylon Escapes are top maintained and equipped with the latest safety technology. Our driver, Sarath, made with his knowledge, his experience and his friendly manner, our tour a memorable one. We found our tour as we had been self-propelled road, just a lot more relaxed and comfortable. So we enjoyed it very much to be able to individually plan every day, what time we leave, which route we take (for example, whether motorway or coast road), where and how long we stop Stops ... Sarath advised us very precisely how long we schedule which routes had. Even for very spontaneous changes or wishes he was always ready. His restrained, modest and above all very caring kind we thought was very pleasant and would go back anytime with Sarath tour. Only because of the many animals on the roadside, which we would have never discovered without him. Sarath is a true nature lover and knows very well in Sri Lanka's wildlife from. Thanks for the great time! We will come back for sure! Sri Lanka is a wonderful country and with the experts of Ceylon Escapes so makes a trip really fun! Bye for now, Christine, Andreas and Sebastian...

We are enjoying our last day in Sri Lanka at the wonderful Galle Face Hotel. I wanted to tell you how much my friends and I have enjoyed our last 10 days here. We have some great memories to take back to HK with us. The itinerary you planned for us was perfect and I can only say great things about Seelan. He looked after us well all the time, always concerned for our safety and enjoyment and was polite and respectful. His driving was excellent as was his guidance at every location we visited. He has a very extensive knowledge of Sri Lankan history, culture and natural history. He seems to know the names of all the plants, trees, animals and birds. The restaurants he introduced to us for lunch and dinner always met our expectations. I tried, but cannot think of any criticism to make. I will not hesitate to introduce Seelan and Ceylon Escapes to my friends who are interested to come to Sri Lanka. Thanks for everything. Best regards

Shane was our driver/guide provided by Alex at Ceylon Escapes for 12 days .He was always punctual and well turned out . Because I was ill at the start, our tour was delayed and Shane helped us both greatly at the hospital .He was invaluable talking to the hospital staff and keeping us calm .We cannot thank him enough for his help and kindness. Once on our way he turned out to be an extremely knowledgeable and careful driver .We felt safe at all times .Our holiday was very enjoyable helped by Shane's comprehensive knowledge of Sri Lanka, it's customs and history .I did hope at one stage that there wouldn't be an exam at the end ! Joke .We would recommend Ceylon Escapes and Shane to anyone looking for a courteous and efficient driver/guide in Sri Lanka.Thank you again

Having returned from Sri Lanka just over a week ago, I want to thank you for organizing the car and driver. I also want to let you know that the driver (Tissa) was fantastic. Tissa was friendly, informative, respectful and courteous, and was a superb guide and driver. His knowledge of Sri Lankan (and Buddhist) history, nature (wildlife, bird life and vegetation) was fantastic and he certainly helped make our visit to Sri Lanka very memorable. He also was able to make recommendations when we asked for them. On top of this, he was an excellent driver. He kept the car very clean (I think he cleaned it every day) and we felt safe in the car. We would recommend Tissa to anyone! Please share our comments with Tissa, and thank him once again for being our driver and friend in Sri Lanka.

We arrived into Colombo, a chilly 35 deg C wearing gabardine coats and sunglasses to be met by our sleuth Sarath (the Ceylon Escapes driver), or better known to our team as the Secretary of State...... that is after Sarath named me the ex-President of Australia, and my wife Ann, the Minister for Tourism. We held these notable disguises for the two weeks we travelled around Sri Lanka. Our Mr. Sarath took us to out-of-the-way places and great points of abnormal interest. In this senior position (Secretary of state) he clearly knew when to check with the gate guards at the hotels, we stayed at, explaining in Sinhalese that he needed to know how many security guards the hotel had on site! After a bewildered look by the gate guards Sarath would point to me, explaining, the ex-President of Australia is travelling incognito, I did in fact salute back to many of the guards who would recognize the importance of the occasion believing not many would know about the constitution of Australia, or in fact even care. Even though many times I requested Mr. Secretary to drive at 150 km per hour due to the ever present paparazzi, Mr. Secretary always kept to below the speed limit and we always felt safe. On many occasions when we had to stay late for dinner with dignitaries, Mr Secretary was always there waiting with a salute and great drive home. Being driven to the ever pompous and strictly members only Tea highlands Golf course and being supported by Sarath in our quest to stay for a drink was another call above and beyond duty. Having us all in on this pantomime made for an excellent trip. On dropping us at the airport I looked back to see a forlorn Sarath waving a heart-felt farewell. To friends gained, from us all, farewell Sarath. We had a great time covering the coast to the tea mountains, to the national parks and to the beaches, always staying in great accommodation. The Sri Lankan people are a respectful and friendly race. Thank you Ceylon Escapes, to Alex who made our bookings and especially our chauffer/guide and Secretary of State, Sarath. We have already recommended this tour company to all our friends and will continue to do so in the future.

We would like to say a big "thank you" George for making our holiday so memorable. Its been wonderful to see all the birds and have them identified, we felt very safe being driven by you. (Despite the strange driving habits here) you have definitely taken away all the stress of decision making as you know the best places of local customs. We really appreciate your company and wish you well in the future.

Although we traveled in Sri Lanka in December 2015, 2 months back, I had been intending to write of the wonderful time we had travelling around Sri Lanka. We visited most of the highlights Sri Lanka has to offer. Our trip was made very pleasant indeed as we had Sarath as our driver. His good English and ability to use SMS to communicate with us made it even more pleasant. He is reliable, knows his way around the country, drives carefully and courteous with everyone around. Thanks Sarath. I'll definitely recommend Sarath and CeylonEscapes to friends and family heading to Sri Lanka. Michael and Ai Ai from Hong Kong

We just wanted to let you know that Sarath was an amazing driver and companion for our journey. He was an excellent chauffeur and drove with ease and confidence, as well as patience and courtesy through all conditions. He was also an excellent companion and guide. He is extremely well informed about Sri Lanka's natural world - both plants and animals - and pointed out many things that we would have missed as well as offering insights into things we found ourselves. He was always courteous, obliging and punctual and his car was spotless every morning. He helped make our trip through Sri Lanka truly wonderful. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend him or use him again.

We booked a car and driver (Rowan) through Ceylon Escapes for an 18 day tour of the island. Both people we dealt with by email and phone at the Agency (Rebekah and Alex) were helpful, professional and prompt with replies. We were sceptical at first as I could not find any reviews of the company as the business is only new. Don't let this put you off. Through choice we managed our own itinerary and accommodation and Rowan always found his way, sometimes up muddy roads to our guest house or hotel. Once when our choice was inappropriate, Rowan took us to something much better in the same price range. Rowan was the best driver - safe, knowledgeable, reliable, punctual, flexible and went out of his way to cater for our needs. He was easy to be with over such a long trip - gauging when we were chatty and when we needed quiet time. Rowan has lived and worked overseas, speaks excellent English, has a good sense of humour and was perfect for our tour of Sri Lanka. The car had wifi, was comfortable and always immaculately clean. Rowan only took us to places we wanted to go or suggested places he knew would not rip us off. He even gave us the commission he was given at a gem factory we insisted on going to. His knowledge of the tourism industry was a bonus in many ways - he bought our train tickets and put us on the train to Nuwara Eliya before Kandy so we would have a better chance of getting a seat. He would always buy us little snacks or drinks when he thought we would like to try Sri Lankan specialties or when he felt we could do with an energy boost. Little things like this made this trip the easiest we have ever done. I would strongly recommend both Rowan and Ceylon Escapes for your trip to Sri Lanka.

We booked Ceylon Escapes to take us around the 'Cultural Triangle' for a week. I'd highly recommend them. Their customer service was great. If we had any queries they answered them quickly. Our driver (Chintukka) was knowledgeable, reliable, courteous, engaging and spoke very good English. We loved the flexibility it gave us and the stress free way of getting around. A helpful hint is to book a hotel that has accomodation for drivers as usually it's at no extra charge.

I visited Sri Lanka in November with three friends and we booked Sarath for the 8 days to drive us around. He was incredibly professional and friendly, going over and above what was needed. On one particular occasion he raced up Piduruthalagala Mountain after us to bring us umbrellas when it looked like it would start raining! The van was clean and had wifi which was really useful for the few long journeys we did. Would highly recommend both Sarath and Ceylon Escapes.

It is with great gratitude to our guide Mr Seelan that I write this letter. His kindness, compassion, knowledge and expertise are beyond words. My father who is 87 years old organized this trip so his grandchildren could see his homeland, specially the very best of it. Mr Seelan exceeded his wishes and made possible an experience none of us will ever forget. Without him we all would have only had a superficial exposure to the culture, history and flora and fauna. Mr Seelan provided so much insight and background history and information, we all came away with a much deeper understanding and appreciation for the country. We all (12) can not thank your company enough for providing us such a wonderful guide. He gets our full five stars platinum rating. I would be honored to recommend him to the most discriminating clients you may have. Further more it is with a bit sadness we are leaving this paradise of a country, not only because all the beauty we have seen but also beacuse we must say farewell to our friend Seelan. Overall our experience far surpast our expectation mostly due to Seelan.

My daughter and I are at the end of our week of vacation in Sri Lanka. We started in Colombo and visited various sites, we hired Sarath as the driver for the week and i can highly recommend him. He is very knowlegable, courteous, completely reliable (He was always there on time) and most importantly he was a safe driver. (driving is a challenge in Sri Lanka) If we come to Sri Lanka again we would without hesitation hire Sarath to provide our transport needs.
